EXEGESIS

Making a web site with Wix.com was simple, free and easy as they have many different options and designs based on exactly what colour schemes suit your wants the most. As I picked a pink, black and white theme, I felt like it suited my topic really well as I picked a make-up review blog web site. My web site is called MakeUp, and consists of 3 different contributing nodes which including Instagram, Flickr and Pinterest. What my blogging web site does is, it communicates with individuals who can then send me emails and ask me to review certain products which can then benefit others who have the same questions or/and interests. The goal of the web site MakeUp, is to benefit customers on whether they should be purchasing the product or not, and to help them see if it is right for them based on the price and the actual product itself.
MakeUp is a web site that assists individuals, who are interested in make-up and skin care products, to find the right and perfect product for them. It helps individuals find the right makeup shade that they can use. As each product is reviewed, the price is included, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each one of them. I decided to pick make up as it is a really popular industry and it is very well known. As I did my research on other makeup blogs, I couldn’t find many eye-catching web sites which many people would search up and visit or recommend to others.
In today’s technological world, many Web 2.0 platforms are used to communicate with customers. The most popular one in the makeup industry is YouTube and Instagram. I feel as if it could be expanded to a much wider extent if web sites and platforms such as Pinterest and Flickr were just as popular as YouTube in the industry.
The reasoning behind YouTube being such a widely used Web 2.0 platform, is because the consumers get to really visually see how the product looks like on certain YouTubers and their personal opinions on it, which sometimes might be biased. My website MakeUp is a completely unbiased web platform which only consists of the truth of each product. If more web platforms were unbiased, it would probably be easier for customers to pick out exactly what product is right for them.

One of the 3 Web 2.0 platforms I picked is Flickr. Flickr is not the most popular social media platform with only 122 million users (Smith 2016), compared to Facebook which has over 1.32 billion users (Zephoria 2017). Flickr has users in over 60 countries and on an average about one million photos are shared on a daily (Smith 2016). I picked this as one of the platforms because, even though it isn’t as popular social media network as many more platforms, I feel as though it is a perfect way to share photos of exactly what my web site represents and stand for. It could attract attention of many users which would then visit my web site, take interest in it and collaborate and communicate with me.

Another contributing node I used is Pinterest. Pinterest has 150 million active users monthly (Omnicore 2017). I decided to use Pinterest because it is a great platform to share photos of exactly what my web site is about. By sharing photos of makeup, skin care and different make up brands, it would really emphasise what my web site is about and help individuals understand my movement with the web site. It is a really easy platform to connect with people, as you can share their photos and add it to your “boards”. You can create a board and then “pin” or share pictures of the photos you are interested in, so others can see it and then share your board around until you are well known. Currently, Pinterest has a total number of over 50 billion pins shared (Omnicore 2017). Statistics shows that 81% of Pinterest users are females (Omnicore 2017), which benefits my web site even more as mostly women would want to buy the products and see reviews of them. Another fact states that 93% of Pinterest users use the platform to plan their purchases and 87% of the users said that they’ve only purchased something due to Pinterest (Omnicore 2017).  My page would assist people to find my web site and get even more and further information about the certain products so they can be certain about purchasing them.

The last contributing node I used is Instagram. Instagram is the most popular platform used by over 500 million users monthly (Hootsuite 2016). Instagram can be used to share photos on a daily basis on the topics you are interested in. This would benefit MakeUp as the platform can then gain a number of followers and they would easier find out about the web site and what it stands for. Through sharing photos on Instagram, I can use hashtags in order to attract more followers if they search up that specific hashtag. I decided to use Instagram as one of the contributing nodes as it not only is popular and world-wide known, but it is so much easier to advertise your material and aim your web site at a specific audience. Instagram is used by almost everybody so therefore it is much simpler to get your point across and have people come across your page.

As these three contributing nodes are very useful for individuals to come across your web site, the colour scheme and the simple look of the page is also very eye catching and makes it easier for the user to access whatever information they would like to, as well as contact you if they have any questions or requests for you to review. The goal of my web site is to benefit people that would want to know more information about certain products as my research is very precise and I, myself, would try the product for a while and then give my honest and unbiased opinion on it. MakeUp is able to assist anyone who is confused on whether they should purchase a product or not, and they are easily able to contact me. I am very proud of how it has turned out and hope to see It progress even more in the future as I would greatly enjoy making people’s lives easier.
